A Chilly Morning and Two Freezier Weebles - plus where I am at.
It was on the chilly side this morning, with plenty of dew in the grass. We didn’t take a long walk because Tori decided it was an ideal day to turn around after a short outing and go back to bed. I obliged.
Before we returned home, however, I made note of two Freezier Weebles.
One seemed determined to avoid being noticed. Its back was turned to us, but its form was still quite apparent. I’ve always known these little forest folk were shy. They hide so well among the leaves and grass that I likely miss them far more often than I see them. It is a type of camouflage.
Children see them more readily than adults do. I think it is because they are closer to the ground. I’ve noticed they like to stop and look at twigs and such, but I meander.
A few steps later, as we returned to the apartment, I nearly stepped on another Freezier Weeble. After looking at it for a moment, I’m afraid someone may have already stepped on the small form, but I can’t be sure. They sleep so deeply.
I took a few quick notes and drew these sketches when I returned to the apartment. These Freezier Weebles still look quite young. There are plenty of samaras and leaves remaining in the trees, while the acorns and beech nuts are only beginning to fall. I’m sure I’ll see larger ones and more groups in another week or two.
The rest of my week will be busy. I think I’ve figured out the sound on my videos, so I’ll produce two more short videos to test the technique. If they work as well as the breakfast bar video, I’ll continue with fall soups and sourdough breads. I will continue to add those recipes to this blog too, but don’t forget the blog on the website, I’ll be using that one more frequently now that it is working. A few more broken links to find, fix or redirect, but I think I have it sorted now.
In the meantime, after a couple more uploads to the website, I’ll have to apply for a few ISBNs for the books and illustrated manuals I plan to finish this month. Paperwork is never my strongest skill, but I usually get things done, given enough uninterrupted time to do them.
When we take our longer walk on Saturday, I’ll see how many of these little folk I can spy near the Peterborough Lift Lock. Their forms are not so easily disturbed by inattentive walkers and cyclists when they settle safely in the grass. Fall is such a short season, I hope to doodle or sketch out a few more of these creatures on my morning walks the next few weeks.
